He received a potted lavender plant as a gift and discovered that it could thrive in his land. With the knowledge that lavenders can flourish in Kula’s climate and soil, Alii Chang started his lavender farm in 2001. Today, the Hawaii lavender farm is known as Alii Kula Lavender and has over 45 varieties of lavender grown in a 10-acre land.

The Hawaii lavender farm is strategically located high above sea level, on the slopes of Mount Haleakala. With the radiant sun and minimal water, the lavenders were able to blossom to its full potential and started to increase in number. Thousands of lavenders created a scenic blue-violet bed of flowers on the side of the mountain. This is when tours around the Hawaii lavender farm started to materialize.

Alii Kula Lavender was the first to offer Hawaii Lavender Walking Tours, showcasing the vast Hawaii lavender farm and educating people of the many benefits of lavender. Shortly thereafter, a variety of other garden tours were added on the list such as Culinary Luncheon and Wreath Making Tours. This has made lavender farm a success with visitor expectancy of 30,000 people annually. Hawaii Lavender usually blooms during spring and summer; however there are certain varieties that can bloom all year round. Hence, the garden tours are actually available any time of the year.

Alii Kula Lavender has expanded their operations to manufacturing numerous products made from lavender. They have lavender-based products for aromatherapy, culinary, spa and bath products, and even medicine. They usually serve lavender goodies and other lavender dishes during their garden tours. Interested buyers can get a hold of their lavender products at their gift shop in the Hawaii lavender farm, through their website, and their Hawaii retail store.

Lavenders are fragrant, perennial flowering plants that grow well in the Mediterranean region. This is a drought-resistant type of plant and would thrive in sunny and stony habitat. They grow to about 3-4 feet tall and have lovely blue-violet flowers. This is actually where the color lavender was named after. The fragrant smell comes from its flowers which are arranged in a spiral configuration with 6 to 10 blossoms for each branch.

The uses of lavender can be traced back to the Roman times. It was added as a perfume in their baths to relieve tension and to cleanse their body and spirit. By this reason, this sweet-smelling plant was named lavender, from the Latin word ‘lavare’ which means ‘to wash’. Nowadays, lavender has become a staple of spa and bath products. Its soothing properties combined with its aromatic smell make it a perfect ingredient for these types of products.

Considered as an herbal remedy that can cure several ailments, lavender has been widely used in medicines. This can be taken internally or applied externally, depending on the ailment that needs to be relieved. It can be used as a topical ointment for insect bites, minor scratches, and wounds. The lavender essential oil can be rubbed on the temples to ease your headache or migraine. When taken internally, lavender can relieve an upset stomach, indigestion, and can be used as a breath freshener. It has also been known to lessen insomnia, anxiety, and depression.

Different commercial preparations of lavender have been produced. It is now available in a variety of forms such as lotions, soaps, teas, aromatherapy oil and whole dried flowers. Pillows filled with dried lavender flowers are used to promote relaxation and improve the quality of sleep. Certainly, lavender products are just within the reach of the people.

Most people appreciate lavender for its aromatic smell. Its scent is the main reason why people choose lavender-scented products. However, there is more to lavender than its scent. It has been known that lavender has a wide array of uses. It is used as a topical medicine for insect bites, used as a flavoring agent for food and is even made into tea. Several researches have proven that lavenders are natural skin moisturizers and sleep inducers. Due to this, lavenders are mixed with beauty products, such as body lotions and soap.

You might be wondering how the essence of the lavender is added to the product. It is actually just simple. Lavenders are gathered to dry by hanging it upside down. After which, the flowering tops will be removed and collected. The essential oil from the flowering tops will then be extracted. And then for a touch of lavender, the essential oil is simply added to the different products.

Lavender products are great for loosening up those tired muscles with its combination of moisturizing qualities and soothing scent. With just a whiff of its fragrance, products containing lavender can definitely calm your nerves and can even put you in a deep slumber. Using it just before you sleep can ensure a good night’s rest. Just bid those sleepless nights goodbye when you use lavender products.

With these benefits in mind Hawaii based lavender company, Lavender-n-Things made the most out of Hawaii lavender. They get their ingredients fresh from the lush lavender farms in Hawaii.

Lavender is a perennial plant that is a favorite of most gardeners. Aside from its sweet and calming scent, this flowering sub-shrub is cultivated because of its many uses. Its flowers are used as a flavoring agent in several dishes, added to perfume and potpourri for its fragrance, and are known to relieve stress and insomnia. In fact, the lavender has been used as early as the Roman times for its medicinal properties and aromatic smell.

Lavenders are also great for landscaping. Using lavenders instead of the usual fence would create a quaint border for your house. It could also be combined with other flowering shrubs to put together a kaleidoscope of colors for your garden. Lavenders are easy to grow since they thrive on parched land and do not need much attention. Watering and adding fertilizer would actually hamper the growth of this plant. Lavenders love the sun and alkaline soil, but despise the water. Hence, lavender fields should have good drainage so as not to hold much water. It is also advisable to place lavenders where they can get maximum heat of the sun.

Due to the fact that lavenders are easy to cultivate and are tolerant in dry conditions, Alii Chang decided to grow lavenders in his barren piece of land in Hawaii. That piece of land is now known as Alii Kula Lavender and is considered as the prime lavender farm in Hawaii. The 10-acre field on the mountains of Haleakala is sowed with numerous varieties of lavender. The drought-laden patch of land had the perfect conditions for cultivating lavender and has become a bountiful, picturesque field of lavenders. Alii Kula Lavender has become a local tourist spot and a popular venue for weddings. They have moved on to packaging and marketing lavenders with several beauty products and delectable dishes.
